Acoustic & Mechanical Challenges of Rail Maintenance

Industrial Sector Training

Duration: 1 day (7 hours)
Price: 1 100€

Maintenance is a key element of any rail operation (high-speed trains, freight, streetcar, metro). This training course provides an understanding of wheel/rail contact, the generation (and evolution) of faults and their impact on infrastructure and rolling stock, making it possible to implement conditional and predictive maintenance plans to optimize operating costs.

Participant Profile

Engineers & technicians involved in the maintenance, operation & management of networks or rolling stock fleets
• People in charge of railway asset management (urban communities, etc)

Prerequisites

• Basic knowledge of vibration & mechanics
• High school math & science (calculus, physics, etc)

Sessions

• 27 March 2025
• 2 October 2025

No more than 12 people per session

Evaluation – Award

• Questionnaire in the form of a quiz

• Certificate of achievement

Goals

  • Understand the physical phenomena of wheel/rail contacts
  • Identify the generation & evolution of wheel & track defects (wear, fatigue, spalling)
  • Appreciate the acoustic & vibratory impacts (main lines & urban applications)

Program

  • Classification, qualification & quantification of defects
  • Operational control tools
  • Railway dynamics & safety
  • Mechanical strength of structures & residual service life
